Only one more picture to take now... You will find no "stripped kiddies" here.
Drop me a line. I can link to your site if you have one, or perhaps you could have a page on mine. Subdomains are a definite possibility.
This is a work in not-very-much-progress-so-far. The plan is to provide limited wireless internet access over a small part of Cherry Hinton, in line with some of the ideas you will find at consume.net.
If you're interested in using or playing with the service, drop me a line and I'll try to move things along a bit faster.
In case it's not obvious, you will need your own computer and 802.11b wireless network card. Also, the usual disclaimers must be applied: Does not constitute a promise of free network access; May contain traces of nutters, etc..
There is almost nothing on the server with the wireless card. I haven't configured DHCP or any access point software, so even if you get a signal you won't be able to do much except fetch some MRTG graphs from a very dull web server. Packets will not be routed if you use the machine as a gateway.
My plan is to configure enough server side software that an average Windows box will detect the wireless connection and try to use it in a sensible way. This means that people using sensible operating systems should also find it easy to use the connection. 8-)
Recently, up and down like a yo-yo. Not that you care much at the moment.
NTL explicitly forbid sharing my network connection the way I intend to. Conveniently enough, my minimum contract period (they're a bad idea, really!) is up fairly soon, so we shall have some fun with that I think.
